Approach and scope

Revista Areté of the Speech and Hearing Therapy program of Corporación Universitaria Iberoamericana is a serial scientific publication at publishing knowledge derived from Science, Technology and Innovation Activities. It presents the results of research processes on subjects as broad and as interpersonal as human communication and higher aerodigestive functions, in various fields and scenarios that aim to contribute to the development of the discipline and its praxis, and to cross the frontier of knowledge.

In this sense, Revista Areté acts to constantly incorporate new contexts and authors that allow us to be at the forefront in the subjects and trends of the field.

Thus, the works that are incorporated into Revista Areté articulate robust research processes that contribute to the construction and transformation of scientific knowledge, which are especially aimed at professionals, teachers, and researchers who, given their nature and their work, address subjects related to interpersonal human communication, its disorders, and related areas.

The articles published in RevistaAreté are unpublished in nature; in other words, their content has not been previously published in full or in part,, nor are they in the process of being published in other journals. Evaluation and Peer-Review Process

The submitted articles will undergo an editorial process detailed as follows:

Acknowledgement of receipt and preliminary version:

Submitted articles will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee, who will conduct a preliminary reading and establish the quality and relevance of the assessment.

This process also includes a verification of the formal aspects of the document as per its typology (original, review, reflection, case study). If a manuscript needs any initial corrections, said corrections should be submitted to Revista ARETÉ within 15 days in order to comply with editorial deadlines. Simply submitting an article does not guarantee its publication.

Review method: Once it is decided that the manuscript meets the thematic requirements and editorial standards stated in the "guidelines for authors", the basic document is sent to two external peer reviewers selected by the Editorial Committee to judge the convenience of its publication and to suggest appropriate modifications. For this purpose we have a peer review form.

The review method used is double-blind (anonymity of the author and reviewers), with a member of the editorial team in charge of establishing contact between the two.

Results of the review:The evaluation process may result in: (a) Approval of the article; (b) Acceptance with minor modifications; (c) Acceptance with major modifications. (d) Non-publishable. Any of these decisions will be sent to the author through the OJS platform.

When an article is classified as “publishable with modifications”, the rationale supporting said decision will be sent to the author so that they can make the relevant adjustments or proposals within a period not longer than 20 days.

If the article is classified as “non-publishable”, the comments supporting this decision will be informed to the author(s) and it is expected authors will benefit from the comments made by the peer reviewers. The journal may receive rewritten articles, but the journal expects them to be restructured according to the previous comments and for a future call for papers, since the purpose of the review process in Revista Areté, in addition to validating the advances in knowledge in the specific subjects, is to offer an opportunity to authors to improve their proposals towards the construction of more solid articles.

Verification of Adjustments: When the authors submit their document adjusted according to suggestions made by the external reviewers, the editor in charge will verify that all the necessary adjustments have been made.

Revista Areté reserves the right to make changes or introduce modifications in the document, to allow a better understanding of it, without this resulting in a change in its content.

Notes of Interest: The Editor and the Editorial Committee of Revista Areté are in charge of deciding about the publication of the articles. We clarify that the submission the documents and other supporting documents does not create an obligation to publish the articles.

The non-correspondence with the editorial or subject line of the journal, errors in format, presentation, major syntax and spelling errors, the non-compliance with the journal's policies or with the code of ethics and best practice, may be grounds for rejection of the manuscript prior to the review by academic peers.

History

Revista Areté, a journal of the Speech and Hearing Therapy Program of Corporación Universitaria Iberoamericana was created to meet the need to have a space to publish academic production. Thus, in 1994, an initial bulletin called Areté was issued to collect the written production of teachers and students. Its name is still preserved, a word coined by the Greeks meaning "to be the best", not in the sense of competition, but in the sense of "cultivating artistic qualities, and the capacity for intellectual exercises." As a moral ingredient, it refers to kindness, virtuosity, individual capacity, and citizenship, aspects which are promoted in the education of students at our institution.

As a journal, volume 01 was published in 2001, and it has continuously disseminated the results of research on issues related to Interpersonal Human Communication. Initially, only one volume was issued per year, in printed format.  Starting in 2015, it began publishing two issues a year.

Then, as of 2016, publication has been done online through the portal arete@ibero.edu.co, a semi-annual publication with two issues circulating every year, in response to the interest of the academic community in order to take on new challenges.

Revista Areté has been a national and international example for professionals and students of speech and hearing therapy programs and related areas.  It has crossed institutional and geographic borders, solidifying its position in the scientific community. It is aimed at professionals, teachers, and researchers at the national and international levels interested in subjects related to human communication, its disorders, and related areas.

The journal is open access, there is no cost for submitting manuscripts, nor for subsequent publication. It also has no cost for readers. Our intent is to provide a medium to socialize the advances in the fields related to human communication.
