Peer Review and Evaluation Process
Areté Journal develops a rigorous and transparent editorial process guided by criteria of scientific quality, thematic relevance, originality, and ethics in academic publishing. All manuscripts are submitted to a double-blind peer review process, guaranteeing confidentiality and anonymity for both authors and reviewers.
As part of the editorial process, the editorial team conducts similarity and plagiarism analyses using specialized tools in order to verify the originality and unpublished nature of the manuscripts.
Stages of the Editorial Process
Preliminary Review
Once the manuscript is received, the editorial team verifies compliance with the formal, thematic, and editorial requirements established by the journal. At this stage, the correspondence with the journal’s scope and focus, manuscript typology, and compliance with the author guidelines are evaluated.
If preliminary adjustments are required, authors will have a maximum period of 15 days to submit the requested corrections.
Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the preliminary review are sent to at least two external reviewers specialized in the subject matter of the article. The evaluation is conducted under the double-blind modality, ensuring that authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other throughout the entire process.
The editorial team coordinates communication between authors and reviewers, ensuring confidentiality, transparency, and traceability throughout the editorial process.
Evaluation Criteria
Peer reviewers use standardized evaluation forms defined by the journal, which assess aspects related to:
* Scientific and methodological rigor.
* Thematic relevance.
* Argumentative coherence.
* Academic and writing quality.
* Originality.
* Contribution to disciplinary knowledge.
Reviewers may also provide observations and comments directly on the manuscript in order to guide authors in strengthening their academic proposal.
Editorial Decisions
Based on the concepts issued by the reviewers, the Editorial Committee may adopt one of the following decisions:
* Accepted for publication.
* Accepted with minor revisions.
* Accepted with major revisions.
* Rejected.
The results and observations derived from the evaluation process will be communicated to the authors through the OJS platform.
When significant discrepancies exist between reviewers’ recommendations, the Editorial Committee may appoint a third academic reviewer to support the final editorial decision.
Adjustments and Final Review
When revisions are required, authors must submit a revised version together with a detailed response to the reviewers’ comments.
The responsible editor will verify compliance with the requested revisions and may request additional reviews when considered necessary.
The journal may perform minor style, language, and editorial standardization corrections without altering the academic content of the manuscript.
Editorial Production and Publication
Accepted articles enter processes of copyediting, layout design, and editorial standardization. Subsequently, the final version will be sent to the authors for review and approval prior to definitive publication.
The final publication decision corresponds to the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Committee of Areté Journal.
Editorial Rejection Criteria
The Editorial Committee may reject manuscripts before or during the evaluation process when they:
* Do not correspond to the journal’s thematic focus or editorial scope.
* Present significant methodological, argumentative, or academic deficiencies.
* Fail to comply with the journal’s editorial and ethical policies.
* Show evidence of scientific misconduct, plagiarism, duplication, or inappropriate use of sources.
Appeals Procedure
Authors who disagree with an editorial decision may submit a formal appeal addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, clearly and argumentatively explaining the reasons for their request.
The Editorial Committee will comprehensively analyze the case and issue a final decision. The maximum response time for resolving an appeal will be 15 business days from its receipt.
