Revista Areté follows the “Best Practice Guidelines for journal editors” and other ethical provisions of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as well as the provisions of Habeas Data-Statutory Law 1266 of 2008, for the management of personal information in databases.
Before participating in the journal as an author, reviewer and editor, we recommended taking into account the following considerations:
Authors:
- Preparation of articles: Authors interested in publishing in the Areté journal have at their disposal the “Author Guidelines”, in Spanish and English, which can be consulted at: https://arete.ibero.edu.co/about/submissions#authorGuidelines. This Information explains how manuscripts should be formally presented to the journal.
- Authorship of the articles:Revista Areté promotes transparency about the contributions of the authors. It is understood that the people referenced in the document have made significant contributions in the study and have collaborated in the preparation of the article. The order of appearance will be according to the order of participation of the authors in the construction of the manuscript.
- Originality and exclusivity:Revista Areté, in order to promote reflection in the field of health and guarantee its scientific quality, fixes its interest in unpublished and original articles. Therefore, when starting the article submission process, the authors must necessarily fill out the letter of originality with in order to carry out the relevant editorial processes in a reliable and safe manner. Likewise, authors are requested to declare in the official letter that their article has not been published before and that it is not in the process of being edited in other scientific journals and that they have the authorization to handle the data. If more information is required, the editorial team will ask the authors for the pertinent information.
- Protection of rights and confidentiality:It is understood that research involving human beings, institutions, communities and social groups must consider ethical criteria and principles in such a way that the parties would not have been put at risk; they must consider the approval of the participants or institutions by means of an informed consent that complies with the provisions in National Resolutions of bodies such as Ministries of Health. Articles submitted must highlight this.
- Plagiarism: authors must ensure that they do not engage in incorrect behavior such as the total or partial reproduction of other articles or the copying of fragments verbatim without any kind of acknowledgment to the authors. Those fragments that are taken from primary or secondary sources and in general the entire article must consider the current citation standards and include the corresponding references. Upon identifying possible plagiarism in the documents, the submission will be rejected immediately.
- Conflict of interests: Authors must report their existing relationships in relation to their article. This includes institutional affiliations, methods and means of funding, entities and projects that support the research. You must first consider whether the submission involves situations with interests that are being unduly influenced. It is essential to fill out the form No conflict of interest
- Approval and publication times. The approval or rejection time is subject to the initial assessment by the editorial committee, which can be established in a period of 2 to 3 weeks depending on the volume of articles received in the semester and the closing dates of the call; however, the peer review process takes 10 to 12 weeks. Nonetheless, the above may vary considering that it is an unpaid process and subject to the availability of each of the pee reviewers. Bear in mind that a volume is published at the end of each semester.
- Editorial reciprocity: After the initial approval of the articles, the authors and the editorial committee undertake to establish a permanent dialogue through the Revista Areté platform, in such a way that corrections and suggestions are made in a timely manner and concerns that arise in the editing process are clarified, guaranteeing the quality of the publications.
- Circulation of knowledge: In accordance with the open access policy, Revista Areté, as a digital medium, encourages the free and open circulation of its contents through different media and encourages its authors to disseminate the publications made through institutional or personal repositories and even through social networks.
Reviewers:
- Review Process: The academic peers who accept the invitation to review the journal articles must have extensive knowledge of the topics and experience in the proposed areas. Although the journal's editorial committee takes into account the suitability of the jury, we expect the proposed reviewers to acknowledge and report their suitability to carry out the review. They will be free to accept or reject the invitation from the journal.
- Conflict of interests. Although Revista Areté considers a “double blind” policy for the review of articles, the selected juries must refrain from conducting the review if they have direct or indirect conflicting interests in carrying out the review.
- Permanent communication: From the moment the review is approved, the reviewers undertake to maintain open and constant communication with the editorial committee, to clarify doubts in the process or establish agreements for the delivery of judgment. The journal will be in a position to give response to any concerns about the review process in a timely manner.
- Review process. The journal has a review form for the reviewers to rate the submitted manuscripts from a critical and academic perspective. The assessment is based on the relevance, coherence, importance, sufficiency, clarity, accuracy, adequate and consistent referencing, originality of the topic, contribution to knowledge, as well as argumentation, writing, among other aspects that highlight academic quality.
- The editorial committee is interested in having the comments provided by the reviewers in the review process be part of a constructive and academic criticism. The journal reserves the right of publication, according to the opinion of the reviewers, the corrections made by the authors and the final approval by the Editorial Committee.
- Review times: The journal asks the academic peers to comply with the editorial schedule and consider the proposed dates, taking into account that this is one of the most relevant phases. Once the reviewers receive the manuscript, they have a maximum of 3 weeks to issue their judgment by means of the review form. In case of non-compliance, the editor in charge restarts the process of obtaining a new peer reviewer.
- Confidentiality and information management: Taking into account that the manuscripts received are original and unpublished, the reviewers undertake to make good use of the information provided. They shall not use the manuscripts for purposes other than the review and issuance of a judgment.
Editorial/Scientific team
