Areté Journal is committed to complying with ethical principles and good practices in scientific publishing, guided by the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and other international standards applicable to scholarly communication.
The journal promotes transparent, rigorous, and responsible editorial processes based on academic quality, scientific integrity, respect for intellectual property, and the ethical management of information.
Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to Areté Journal must guarantee that:
- The submitted works are original and unpublished.
- The manuscript is not simultaneously under evaluation by another journal.
- All sources used are properly cited and referenced according to APA Standards, seventh edition.
- All individuals listed as authors made significant academic contributions to the study.
- Potential conflicts of interest, funding sources, and institutional support are properly declared.
- Research involving human beings, communities, or institutions has the required ethical approvals and informed consent in accordance with current regulations.
- Authors must guarantee the protection of the rights, privacy, and confidentiality of individuals, institutions, or communities participating in research processes, avoiding the inappropriate disclosure of sensitive information or personal data.
Areté Journal promotes a relationship of editorial reciprocity between authors and the editorial team, aimed at maintaining permanent academic dialogue and strengthening the scientific quality of publications. Authors commit to responding promptly to observations, corrections, and requests arising from the editorial process.
Reviewers
Peer reviewers must conduct the evaluation process with objectivity, confidentiality, academic independence, and respect for the ethical principles of scientific review.
Reviewers must:
- Disclose potential conflicts of interest.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the information contained in manuscripts
- Provide reasoned, critical, and constructive evaluations
- Comply with the deadlines established for the review process.
Information provided during the evaluation process may not be used for personal, academic, or commercial purposes.
Editorial Team
The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Committee shall guarantee transparent and impartial editorial processes guided exclusively by academic and scientific criteria.
Editorial decisions will be based on:
- The scientific quality of the manuscript
- Thematic relevance
- Compliance with ethical and editorial standards
- The evaluations issued by peer reviewers.
The journal will not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, nationality, institutional affiliation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, or political position of the authors.
The editorial team shall ensure the confidential handling of information provided by authors and reviewers and shall oversee compliance with the journal’s ethical and editorial policies.
Scientific Integrity
Areté Journal promotes respect for scientific integrity and will act upon possible conduct contrary to publication ethics, including plagiarism, falsification, data manipulation, duplicate publication, or inappropriate use of sources.
Data Protection and Confidentiality
Areté Journal guarantees the confidential treatment of information provided by authors, reviewers, and users, in accordance with current regulations on personal data protection and habeas data applicable in Colombia.
The information collected will be used exclusively for editorial, academic, and administrative purposes related to the management of the journal.

Copyright Notice
By submitting a manuscript to Revista Areté, authors authorize the journal to publish, reproduce, distribute, publicly communicate, make available for consultation, and index the article for academic, scientific, and knowledge dissemination purposes through a non-exclusive transfer of economic copyright.
Authors retain their moral rights over the work and guarantee that the manuscript is an original and unpublished work, does not infringe upon third-party rights, and is not simultaneously under review by another scientific journal.
The authorization granted to Revista Areté allows the journal to:
a) Publish the article in print and/or electronic format.
b) Reproduce, store, and distribute the content in different media and formats.
c) Include the article in databases, indexing systems, repositories, and national and international scientific information services.
d) Promote the academic and scientific dissemination of the manuscript in accordance with the editorial policies of the journal.
Articles published in Revista Areté are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
Digital Preservation Policy
Areté Journal implements digital preservation mechanisms aimed at guaranteeing the permanent access, availability, integrity, and long-term conservation of published contents.
The journal uses archiving and digital preservation systems integrated into the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, including:
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
-CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
These systems allow the creation of distributed and secure copies of the journal contents, ensuring their recovery and continuous availability in the event of technical failures, data loss, or service interruptions.
Areté Journal promotes the preservation and visibility of scientific production through electronic open-access publishing and the use of international standards for interoperability and editorial management.
Correction and Retraction Policy
Areté Journal follows the guidelines and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for the management of corrections, retractions, and other situations related to the integrity of scientific publications.
Minor corrections (errata) are published for typographical or data errors that do not affect the conclusions of the article. Significant corrections (corrigendum) apply to errors that partially affect the conclusions. Retractions are issued in cases of unreliable findings, plagiarism, duplicate publication, fraud in research involving human subjects, or serious methodological errors that invalidate the work.
Retractions may be requested by the authors or determined by the Editorial Committee when sufficient evidence of ethical or scientific misconduct exists.
Retracted articles will remain accessible and clearly marked as “Retracted” in order to preserve the integrity of the scientific record.
Metadata Policy
As part of the submission process through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, authors must complete the manuscript metadata accurately and comprehensively.
The metadata required by the journal include, among others:
- Title of the article in the original language
- Abstract in the original language.
- Keywords in the original language.
- English translation of the title, abstract, and keywords.
- Bibliographic references.
- Information on funding or supporting agencies

The quality and accuracy of the metadata are the responsibility of the authors. However, during the editorial production process, the responsible editor will verify the consistency, completeness, and standardization of the information registered in the OJS platform.
Self-Archiving Policy
Areté Journal allows and promotes the self-archiving of published articles as a strategy to strengthen the circulation, visibility, and open access to scientific knowledge.
Authors may deposit and disseminate the published version of their articles in:
- Institutional repositories.
- Subject repositories.
- Personal websites.
- Academic and scientific networks.
- Academic dissemination platforms.
Self-archiving must properly acknowledge the original publication in Areté Journal and include the complete bibliographic reference, DOI (when applicable), and official publication link.
