Communication Disorders in Children with underlying Audiological Pathology.

Abstract

This study pretends to describe the communication disorders prevalence in 100 boys and 88 girls (from 0 to 10 years old) who had hearing pathology in Bogotá between 1998 and 2001. The lackof information related to communication disorders restricts knowledge on this disability. The study showed that the remote prenatal causes prevalence was mother’s rubella (47.88%);postnatal causes included high fever (43.61%). The mediate cause was the deep bilateral neurosensorial hypoacusia (89%). On the other way, there was more problem in oral verbal modality than in gesture one.
In conclusion, there were not rigorousity neather systematicity in the communication diagnostic register to this population that permits to identify confident data. This study showed that the remote and mediate causes that were identificated comprised avoidable infectious conditions and diagnoses revealed that children have not received timely and efficient attention.
