This editorial reflects on the significance of beginning a professional path in Speech-Language Pathology, recognizing that this decision constitutes an act of commitment to a life project, the future, and a particular way of relating to the world.
It presents the imaginaries and motivations that configure the emerging professional identity of Speech-Language Pathology students, highlighting the strong vocational sense and the desire to generate impact in the lives of others.
It evidences the initial lack of knowledge about the profession and its limited visibility in scenarios prior to higher education, which poses a challenge for the academic community in terms of dissemination and outreach to those in the process of professional choice.
It is recognized that prior contact with professionals in the field contributes to building clearer and more positive perceptions about the discipline. As students progress in their training, they consolidate a vision of an integral professional that articulates disciplinary and scientific knowledge with ethics, empathy, and social commitment, recognizing the scope of speech-language pathology practice in clinical, educational, business, and community contexts.
It is emphasized that the construction of professional identity is nurtured by dialogue with research and academic production, with spaces such as Revista Areté being fundamental to broaden perspectives and foster critical reflection on the discipline.
Finally, it invites readers to view each article as an opportunity for professional growth, recognizing that Speech-Language Pathology is not only learned, but also constructed and projected through reflection, research, and academic exchange.
