Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of age and gender on the vibratory behavior of the vocal folds during the emission of a vowel sustained in three defined age groups of voice professionals based on values obtained by means of electroglottography (EGG ). Forty subjects (25 women and 15 men) divided into three groups participated in this study. The parameters of the analysis were contact quotient (CQ) and fundamental frequency (Fo). No significant relationships were reported between the variables in question. The findings suggest that an adequate use of the voice added to a systematic training, as in the case of professional voices, has a positive impact and could favor the conservation of vocal function after the normal aging process has begun
