Abstract

This paper presents the assessment and vocal
rehabilitation for unilateral vocal fold paralysis case;
vocal parameters pre and post-treatment were
compared and intervention strategies and activities
are applied, based on the principles of sensorimotor
learning. Method: A 69-year-old male patient diagnosed
with paralysis of the right vocal fold in the paramedian
position. Evaluation pre y post vocal rehabilitation is
performed, including objective parameters at acoustic
level, electroglottograph, video-stroboscopic. The
treatment plan included 5 intervention sessions.
Results: objective changes in maximum phonation
time, vocals acoustic qualities, acoustic parameters
(frequency, disturbance, harmonic to noise ratio and
long-term spectral characteristics), degree of adduction
of the vocal folds and glottal competence. Adherence
of the treatment to the real contexts of the patient‘s
performance, allowing him a spontaneous speech
with audibility, naturalness and intelligibility; effective
communicative interactions with family, friends and
co-workers. Conclusion: Unilateral vocal fold paralysis is
a deficiency where therapeutic treatment becomes an
important resource to strengthen the quality of life of the
patient with this diagnosis; The sensory-motor learning
principles were an essential aspect for the changes
reported in the patient‘s voice.
