Abstract

This article is intended to reflect on the skills and
knowledge necessary for the work of the speech
pathologist interested in vocal therapy for singers, which
we call here “therapy of the delicacies”. From the axis
of the inquiry about what inhabits the existing space
between therapist and patient, it is discussed that the
understanding of the complex relationships between
the brain and the larynx, between the body and the
voice, the behavior of the respiratory musculature,
the vocal physiology involved in the different styles of
singing is only a small part of the knowledge necessary
for the therapist who seeks to act in this field. This is
relevant because there are many variables existing in a
problem presented by a singer or an actor, a problem
that may or may not be related to his artistic technique.
The discussion that this text raises is the result of the
systematization of the habilitation and rehabilitation
work of singers and actors in the city of São Paulo (Brazil),
which has been developed for 30 years. We found that
knowing the universe of the singing voice through one’s
experience with singing can help the therapist to have
more intimacy with his voice and thus facilitate the
establishment of a relationship of trust with the patien
