The Stomatogenic Functions of Suction-Breathing-Deglution of the Newborn
Evaluación de las Funciones Estomatognáticas Succión-Respiración-Deglución del neonato Validation of the evaluation protocol
Main Article Content
By knowing in detail, the normal development of the stomatognathic system and its functions, an evaluation protocol is created for the newborn, which allows the early identification of risk factors and possible alterations. Content validation was carried out through the criteria of experts, likewise, item analysis and reliability analysis were performed through Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The study was conducted with a sample population of 400 infants, before hospital discharge; divided into two groups according to gestational age. The design used was descriptive-comparative and the statistics used were non-parametric, using the Mann - Whitney U statistic, with a significance value of greater than 0.5 as a decision rule for comparisons according to gestational age. Through the expert judgment, a coefficient between 0.86 and 1.0 was obtained that denotes its validity and reliability is carried out through Cronbach's alpha which reaches a coefficient of 0.892 confirming that it is a highly reliable instrument, with adequate psychometric properties. It concludes the type of delivery and gestational age have a decisive influence on the development of primary stomatognathic functions.
