Abstract

The objective of this study was to adapt a Peruvian version of the Transgender Voice Questionnaire for Male-to-Female individuals (TVQMtF) and validate the Trans Voice Evaluation Protocol. This was a prospective study focusing on validity and reliability. The first phase involved the translation, harmonization, and pilot testing of the TVQMtF with 21 transgender women. The second phase examined the psychometric properties (internal consistency and reliability) of the adapted questionnaire and the Trans Voice Evaluation Protocol through expert judgment and the administration of the translated and adapted TVQMtF to 21 transgender women aged 21 to 47 years to obtain descriptive statistics. High levels of internal consistency were achieved (α = 0.92) with a moderate-to-very-high correlation coefficient (CIT = 0.839). Regarding content validation, significant agreement (<0.05) was observed among expert judges, and the questionnaire demonstrated favorable validity scores. In conclusion, the Transgender Voice Questionnaire for Male-to-Female individuals and the Trans Voice Evaluation Protocol are suitable tools for the self-assessment of vocal characteristics in transgender women and for guiding voice training over time as a therapeutic contribution. Their use is recommended for both clinical and research purposes.
