This document describes a number of findings related to a project undertaken by both Secretaria de Educación de Bogota D.C. (SED) and Universidad Nacional de Colombia addressed to reconstruct the profile of a language therapist in the educational sector. This project purpose was to generate an acknowledgement of the profession and its impacts on academy, laws and recipients by contrasting theory and practice. In developing this project, communication is recognized as a basic element of the self-formation in both intrapersonal and interpersonal dimensions as well as a tool by which all the human actions for people transformation are facilitated. The language therapist is also conceived as an expert in communication and language in responsible for ensuring communication and promote the welfare of people.
