Abstract

The precision diagnostic methods objectively addressing swallowing disorders in Colombia are not easily accessible to the population not included in the mandatory health plan. In Colombia the speech therapists do not have access to resources that facilitate accurate diagnosis in dysphagia, so that his approach may be based on clinical interpretation capacity could easily be considered “subjective” or empirical, which increases the risk of misinterpretation and handling inadequate process. Alternatively for clinical, Cervical Auscultation (AC) has been used by some practitioners as an alternative screening to get to know the situations prevailing in the pharyngeal phase of the swallowing process, this paper aims to identify through a review of available evidence, the relationships between physiological phenomena that originate after swallowing reflex is activated and triggers the protective reflex activation and lower airways, in order to achieve further from the spectrographic sound a true understanding of physical- acoustic phenomenon swallowing.
